Conference Chalice and Paten
Limited Edition at £45.

The design on this year’s limited edition chalice and paten is inspired by the Cross of Caedmon, which stands on the hillside high above the Yorkshire town of Whitby, where the Celtic and Roman churches came together at the Synod of Whitby in 664 to settle their differences on the date of Easter.
Whitby Abbey played host to the synod at the invitation of St Hilda and it was that same abbey that she invited Caedmon to join as a lay brother, to write his poetry and folk songs bringing to life the scripture stories, and in doing so becoming the first English poet.
The smooth lines of the chalice reflect the simplicity of the monastic life, reminding us of our one to one relationship with God; whilst the Cross of Caedmon reflects for us our call to witness by whatever gifts we are given.
